China has made me a fan of fruit cake, albeit indirectly. As part of a Christmas package sent by Mom, I was mailed a fair-sized fruit cake (“baked in the deep south” says the package – not Southern Ontario, presumably). So for the last couple days, I’ve been working away at that fruit cake, having a portion of it each morning for breakfast. Having few opportunities here to eat what I would, back home, call healthy food, I had a relationship of convenience with my fruit cake. “Merely any port in a storm,” perhaps, but pretty tasty nonetheless. I finished eating it this morning, feeling a bit sentimental at seeing the last of my friend off. For one week, at least, my vitamin levels were adjusted to normal levels. Back to fried bread things tomorrow.

I’ve got one class to teach this evening, then that’s it until after Hong Kong and Spring Festival. Had my hair cut today in preparation for the trip. Tomorrow I’ll buy some new travel clothes, meet up with Zhang Tuan in the afternoon, have dinner with Sean in the evening, then Thursday’s the big day! Yessir, doing fine.
